A worker-owned and community-built restaurant and community hub grounded in collective action where love for the people is at the heart of everything we do.

We exist to reimagine what the restaurant industry can be by challenging its norms and forging a path anchored in solidarity, interconnection, and community care.

Our menu showcases dishes that represent our diverse worker collective. Flavors are influenced by our backgrounds -- from Thai, Mexican, Filipino, Vietnamese, Salvadorean, Turkish, and beyond. Our offerings are influenced by the seasons, with a strong emphasis on inclusion of vegan and gluten-free offerings.

We are majority queer owned, offering a vibrant and inclusive space where everyone can enjoy themselves, connect, feel nourished, and build community resilience.

Understory is a gem! It's my favorite spot to meet up with friends and I always take my family there when they come to visit me. The delicious food and community vibe make every visit really special.
